Duties and Responsibilities
Applications are invited for a post doctoral research associate position. The successful applicant will work with strong and vibrant groups within the departments of Earth Sciences and Chemistry in UCL.

The project aims to determine the water content of the Earth's mantle through concurrent electrical conductivity and infra-red absorption spectroscopy measurements of silicate minerals at high pressures and temperatures in the diamond anvil cell.  The observed dependence of electricla conductivity on water content will be used in inversions of the observed geomagnetic response function to constrain water content in the upper mantle and transition zone.  The position is for the experimental component of the project.
The post is funded by NERC for three years in the first instance.

Key Requirements
Applicants will have a PhD, or thesis submitted and subject to examination, in the Earth sciences, phyiscs or a related physical science.  An independent research reputation with high quality publications and a strong background in diamond-anvil cell experimentation are essential.
